Jose Raymond – Vice-Chairman

Jose Raymond

Deputy Chairman, Chiam See Tong Sports Foundation

Jose Raymond’s love affair with sports began when he was barely three years old when his father brought him to watch a Malaysia Cup match at the Kallang National Stadium. While he did not make it as a professional footballer or athlete of any sort, he did the next best thing – write about athletes, and the issues surrounding sports in Singapore as a journalist. He spent 11 years as a journalist in the Straits Times and Mediacorp and also served in multiple appointments while at Singapore Sports Council (currently Sport Singapore), Singapore government agency for sports promotion and development. He also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Environment Council, and was a Senior Director of Communications at the Singapore Sports Hub. He was elected as Vice-President (Finance) of the Singapore Swimming Association in June 2014 and is currently serving his second term in office.

“Sports is important to any young nation, and especially ours, since we are a diverse and multi-racial society. It is the one element which can bring a people from all walks of life  together, to commiserate in times of defeat and to cheer together in victory. It is our hope and aim through the Chiam See Tong Sports Foundation that we provide support to as many needy children as possible, to help them develop, so they can be the future heroes of Singapore whom we cheer for.”

Jose is currently Managing Director of SPIN, a communications agency and Vice-President (Finance) of the Singapore Swimming Association. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Murdoch University in Perth and is a Master’s in Public Administration candidate at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.

CAMILLA CHIAM

Influenced by her father, Chiam See Tong, Camilla’s passion for sports began at the tender age of 10-months when she was taught by him to “doggy paddle” and tread water. Since then, she has taken part in school swim meets, a biathlon, running events and completed a 10-km open sea swim in 4 hours. Other father-daughter sports related bonding sessions throughout the years included badminton, cycling, ball games, wrestling and long walks.

“My father always believed in using sports as a force for good. He held the tenet that a person’s true character is reflected and on full display when playing sports, whether on a recreational or competitive level,” said Camilla. “Good sportsmanship, encompassing discipline, perseverance, integrity and compassion, are the cornerstones of any successful athlete and a reflection of one’s values in life. Through the Chiam See Tong Sports Foundation, we intend to provide youths in need accessibility to various sporting activities and in doing so, inspire them to discover their joy and passion while building strong life skills through sports.”

Camilla is currently vice president, PR & Communications, Asia Pacific, at Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group and a member of the company’s Asia Pacific Executive Committee. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California
